Rainy Day Pan Pizza

Finally, a day that is above freezing! This called for a celebration of sorts, and I dug out my deep dish pizza pan!

I have not made pan pizza for maybe thirty years, so I have been using this awesome pan for all sorts of other meals. Tonight - pan pizza made a big comeback!

First I concocted an "Italian Sausage" with ground turkey, garlic, and various spices... Then oiled the pan and spread the Roundy's plain-wrap pizza crust into the pan. Next, maybe fifteen slices of mozzarella cheese, and Williams-Sonoma Golden Boy pizza sauce. Sliced garlic, dried oregano, and lumps of the turkey "sausage" came next, followed br the sliced mushrooms and a quick spritz of olive oil...

After nearly an hour in the 425F oven, it was cooked enough and nicely browned.

Very tasty, even if it wasn't up to Lou Malnati's (my pan pizza yardstick) standard, but it was also turkey "Italian Sausage", so it had similar taste with much less fat. The Roundy's plain wrap pizza dough was good too, not yellow and eggy/cornmeal-y but it was tasty and crisped up nicely in the oiled pan.

And the Williams-Sonoma Golden Boy pizza sauce - I will have to try to duplicate the flavour in my own sauce... Or frequent their stores to use on my at-home pizza!
