It had been a long time since we tried to replicate the Hot Brown Sandwich that we had on vacation at Thoroughbred Restaurant in Lexington, KY.
We used Sara Lee Artisano bread, deli ham and turkey slices, havarti cheese, tomato, bacon, Parmesan cheese, and cheesy Mornay sauce, broiled until browned and toasty, and served with a side of green beans.
We probably should have used a pre-sliced cheese like Muenster or Swiss than the Havarti, but once it was all melted, it was pretty much unrecognizable.
The Mornay sauce started with butter and flour, cooked together to get the 'floury' taste out, then add milk gradually, then shredded Swiss cheese and a touch of fresh grated nutmeg.
Much like last time, we were wishing for more cheesy Mornay sauce!
